Class of 2020 Commencement

Friday, May 29, 2020

Dear Schoolcraft Class of 2020 and Community,

The understatement of the year has been the nearly unprecedented times and unique circumstances we have found ourselves while we respond and react to the constraints and considerations of COVID-19.  In spite of the times we find ourselves, certain sacred traditions and rites of passage are perhaps now more valued than ever before.  While honoring the Class of 2020 with a graduation ceremony may not follow the same routine as has been done with prior classes, we are committed to planning an event that provides a moment to publicly celebrate our Seniors.

In light of current restrictions for gatherings in public, our graduation commencement is being planned for Sunday, July 26, 2020 at 3:00 P.M.  Our goal is to provide an experience that adheres to all of the guidelines set by the State of Michigan in response to the pandemic and create a moment providing as close to an in-person experience as possible.  While we are uncertain around what parameters will be in place for July 26th, we are working collaboratively with various members of our community to plan a commencement that is as personalized and meaningful as possible.

We believe that planning a July 26th commencement will afford us the optimal amount of time to make an informed plan on a graduation ceremony.  As has been the case with the pandemic, there are many variables under consideration, but none are as important as facilitating an experience that maintains the well-being of our community.  With the fluid nature of this situation, multiple plans are being considered for a graduation event, all of which will have the opportunity for input from members of the Class of 2020, family members, community members, and SCS staff.

While neighboring school districts have developed their own plans, our planning is independent of how other communities choose to facilitate graduation and Senior send off activities.  We will provide a more detailed schedule of the events celebrating our Seniors in future correspondence.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact either of us.

Schoolcraft is fortunate to have an engaged student, family, and school community who desires to celebrate our students in the best manner possible.  As a school, we are certainly excited to honor the Class of 2020 as our Eagles take flight to their next great adventure.

Sincerely,

Rusty Stitt, Ph.D.
