Elementary Reading Month

SCHOOLCRAFT, MI — It was a March to remember at Schoolcraft Elementary, as the school’s annual Reading Month wrapped up with a celebration as unique as it was inspiring. This year, the simple act of turning pages was transformed into a visible testament to student engagement and community collaboration, culminating in a historic achievement of 7,600 books or chapters read.

A Physics-Eye View

Capturing the true scale of the achievement required a special "leading-edge" instructional partnership. Mr. Willoughby and his High School Physics students mobilized to the elementary campus, utilizing aerial photography technology to capture stunning, bird's-eye images of the massive chain. The unique inter-school collaboration was a highlight of the month, blending literature with real-world technology application.

A Community of Champions

An achievement of this magnitude is never possible without a supportive village, and the Schoolcraft community rose to the occasion with unprecedented enthusiasm. The Elementary Team would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the families, friends, and volunteers who made this month a success:

  • Mystery Readers (430 Volunteers): An astounding 430 guest readers (including parents, local leaders, and older students) visited classrooms throughout March, surprising students and bringing new voices and stories to life.

  • Family Support at Home: We are deeply grateful for the families who promoted reading in their daily routines, organized themed reading days from our calendar with their children, and enthusiastically participated in every event.

The end of Reading Month does not mean the end of reading. As our students have shown us with their 7,600 links, their stories are only just beginning.
