Schoolcraft Schools Families,
As the Michigan State Legislature has not yet passed the state budget, we regret to inform you that beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, October 1st, Schoolcraft Community Schools will need to start charging for breakfast and lunch for families who do not qualify for meal benefits.
For the last two school years, Schoolcraft Community Schools has used the free Michigan School Meals funding from the State of Michigan to provide free breakfast and lunch for all students. The funding for that program expires today, and the new fiscal year’s funding has not been finalized. Until the budget is approved, meals will no longer be free for all students.
Meals will be free for those students who qualify for Reduced-Price meals, as the District will cover the remaining cost from our Food Service fund.
Families who qualify for Federal Free & Reduced Price Meals are urged to apply today. The application only takes a few minutes to complete, and your information will be kept safe and confidential. Please log into your Family Portal and click on the “apply for benefits” button to complete the form.
The price of meals beginning October first, will be:
$1.50 for breakfast K-12
$2.75 for lunch K-5
$3.00 for Lunch 6-12
Important: No student will ever be turned away from receiving a meal at school. If a student does not have money on their account or cannot pay at the time of purchase, they will still receive their meal, and a balance will be accrued on their account.
For any questions about school meals or the benefit forms, please contact Food Service Director Sarah Dyer at dyers@schoolcraftcs.org or 269-321-1033.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this uncertain time. We hope the state budget is resolved soon so we can return to providing free meals for all students.
Sincerely,
Nate Ledlow
Superintendent
