A BIG “THANK YOU” from our Battle of the Books teams and their coaches, along with former Battle participants. Thank you also to our PTO for helping fund our author visit from Michael Spradlin, the author of Into the Killing Seas which was one of the 12 Battle of the Books titles for 2019-20.
Each year, the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students are offered the opportunity to join the Battle of the Books. Each team is made up of 6-7 students. The much-anticipated 12 books titles are announced in October. Then each team of 6-7 students chooses the books each team member will master and the reading begins! In February there is a Battle of the Books competition that is held in the Schoolcraft P.A.C. There can be up to 34 teams that can compete from Parchment, Schoolcraft and Vicksburg.
This year, one of the book titles was Into the Killing Seas. With coordinating help from Jenny Taylor from Vicksburg, Mr. Spradlin, the author of that book, came to our Grand Battle on Thursday, February 20th. The next day he came to visit with our Battle of the Books teams and their coaches at the Elementary. We were so excited to meet the author of one of our favorite books this year. We give great THANKS to our PTO for contributing the money toward a visit from this author.
