Kohl Soarding Eagle

Seven years ago we hired a substitute teacher in the district to do something new that not many school districts were doing at the time.  We believed that Mrs. Cindy Kohl could take a vision of teaching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to all elementary students as a special.  There was no curriculum and not a lot of budget to work with. Cindy researched the topic and lead us in an area that was not fully developed as a course for young students.  She worked with PTLW (Project Lead the Way) and KRESA staff to get trained and to teach this curriculum. Knowing we had limited funds, Cindy wrote grants and was awarded a lot of money to purchase things such as 3D Printers, Kangaroos) miniature computers, Robotic stuff just to name a few.

Her students have flourished in the environment she created. Her students grow and learn to do things more independently with open minds because of her caring, modeling and expertise. She deserves this award for pioneering a new area and serving students in this way. Yet she has been courageous and creative in make learning come to life! Her students are so engaged while learning about complex topics like electricity and robots. She has been inventive and fun with how she teaches. Cindy is also so caring and desires for ALL young people to succeed. What a pleasure it is to partner with an exceptional teacher like Cindy she truly is a Soaring Eagle and will be greatly missed as she will be leaving us at the end of the year to follow her husband, who is in the military, back to Germany.  Cindy has truly been a blessing for our community, school district and most importantly for our kids. We are one of the innovative schools in the state teaching STEM to our young people. Please join me in acknowledging Cindy as a Soaring Eagle
