Spectator Tickets for Athletic Events Update
Tuesday, October 13, 2020
On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) issued an update to their guidelines regarding the amount of permissible tickets provided for indoor and outdoor athletic events. In our memo dated Monday, October 5, 2020, we recommended considerations be placed in order for excess tickets, based on “fixed seating capacity” be allocated to students.
On Monday, October 12, 2020, the Kalamazoo County Health Department stated that we could use the 20% (inside) and 30% (outside) fixed seat capacity number for our venues. The capacity of Roy Davis field is 481 and the high school gym capacity for volleyball is 229. Half of the tickets for the venue capacity (240 for football and 114 for volleyball) must be given to the visiting team per MHSAA guidelines. This leaves our community with 240 tickets for football and 114 tickets for volleyball. With this new guideline we are going to provide each participant with a number of tickets they would need to accommodate a split parental situation. The remaining tickets will be issued to our high school seniors first with any remaining tickets being issued to our high school juniors. This policy was presented to the Board of Education at their regularly scheduled meeting with no objections.
While this policy may not address the needs of all of Schoolcraft Community fans, it does provide some relief. Our goal is to get as many of our students to the games as possible. As this situation changes, we will continue to reassess our ticket issuing procedures. Just a reminder, masks are still required and we are asking that all spectators social distance themselves. Thank you for your understanding.
