Thursday, June 11, 2020

Dear Schoolcraft Community Schools families,

The global pandemic has certainly led to significant adjustments to our daily lives.  Given Governor Whitmer’s latest Executive Order 2020-110, a great opportunity has been afforded for our student-athletes to return to campus and re-engage with preparation for the fall sports season.  While the future of in-person learning and athletic competition remains uncertain, we are hopeful that given the collective action we have taken in our individual lives with “flattening the curve”, we are hopeful the current trajectory gets us closer than further away to enjoying activities in support of Eagle student-athletes.

As of Monday, June 15, 2020, preparation for the high school fall athletic season may commence on school campus.  During these exceptional times, we will adhere to the guidelines established by Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order(s) and information from federal, state and local health officials.  While we always maintain the safety and security of the student-athletes under our care, our current circumstances heighten this responsibility in response to COVID-19.

The following expectations and procedures have been shared with our coaching staff to ensure a safe initial return for on-campus athletic participation.  Please review these expectations and procedures with your child.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Athletic Director, Jeff Clark (clarkj@schoolcraftcs.org), or High School Principal, Matthew Dailey (daileym@schoolcraftcs.org)

Your cooperation and understanding of our response under these unique circumstances is most appreciated.  We look forward to our coaches re-engaging with our student-athletes and preparing for what we know will be a great 2020 fall sports season.

Go Eagles!

Dr. Rusty Stitt, Superintendent

RETURN TO ACTIVITY:

  • Return on Monday, June 15, 2020 for conditioning, speed and agility, and weight-based strength training only.

  • Activities, per MHSAA guidelines, will only be able to occur outside.

  • Bathrooms are only available behind the tennis courts.

  • Participants must supply their own water as water will not be supplied by the School District.  Student-athletes must only drink from their own water.

  • All student-athletes must have a COVID-19 Waiver submitted to and on file prior to participating in athletic activity.  The Waiver is attached at the bottom of this correspondence.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT APPROVAL:

  • Student-athletes will be divided into “pods” of the same ten student-athletes and remain in pods until further notice under the direction of a coach (MHSAA Summer Guidelines #2 - June 9, 2020).  Pod assignments must be shared with the Athletic Secretary, Sue Kedrowicz, prior to practice time approval.  Practice time approval will be granted by the Athletic Director.

  • Only 100 participants (including all coaching staff and student-athletes) may be on the High School campus at one time.  All other outdoor facilities are unavailable for pre-season conditioning and training.  Coaches will need to schedule training times with the Athletic Secretary and have the approval of the Athletic Director.  At the time of scheduling, each coach will need to indicate how many pods of student-athletes and coaches will be in attendance.

  • As schedules and space permits, Winter and Spring sports programs will be considered for on-campus training, per the approval of the Athletic Director.

PRE-WORKOUT SCREENING:

  • All participants, including coaches, must conduct a Pre-Workout Screening, provided by the School District.  This screen is currently available electronically.

  • For the purpose of the COVID-19 monitoring, the head coach will assume the responsibility of supervising the check-in and information submitted via the screen.

  • Prior to and during the Pre-Workout Screening, student-athletes and coaches conducting the screening (or in the area of the screening) must wear a face covering, ensuring the nose and mouth are covered.  Participants may elect to remove their face covering, provided they have passed the Pre-Workout Screening and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

  • While waiting for the Pre-Workout Screening, all student-athletes must maintain the six feet of separation, at minimum, per social distancing guidelines.

ATHLETIC ACTIVITY EXPECTATIONS:

  • All coaches must be familiar with the latest MHSAA Summer Guidelines for sports-specific activity and workouts must be followed.

  • Within each pod, student-athletes will need to adhere to social distancing expectations, including remaining a minimum of six feet in distance at all times.

ATHLETIC PHYSICALS:

  • Athletic physicals are not required to participate, but all athletes must have an athletic physical on file with the office when official practices resume on August 10, 2020.

  • The MHSAA has granted a one year waiver for students who had a valid physical for the 2019-2020 athletic year.  You must complete the 2020-21 MHSAA Sports Health Questionnaire and the physical will be valid for the 2020-2021 athletic year.  The 2020-21 MHSAA Sports Health Questionnaire is available in the attachment section.

  • If you didn’t obtain a physical last year, or your health questionnaire is denied you must obtain a new physical for the 2020-2021 athletic year.  The physical must have occurred after April 15, 2020.  MHSAA Physical Exam & Clearance & Consent Forms are available in the attachment section and the high school office.
